The First Ascent Climbing Gym was a combination of a historic building renovation and an additional structure of new construction. The building is located in the Historic District of Downtown Peoria, IL and is approximately 16,000 square feet.
Ethos Design Build worked closely with the owner and was the design-build firm for the entire project, with Walltopia responsible for the interior wall design and installation. The project qualified for the federal historic tax credit program which had a focus on preserving many of the unique features the building now displays.
The connection of the existing building to the new structure, preservation of the vault, preservation of the elevator, replacing windows with original design, maintaining exposed wood and brick are some of the key components of the historic project. Most importantly, Element Building worked closely with the owner to design a vibrant, attractive, exciting, functional and inviting space for the climbing gym business.
